The NML came into existence due the vision of Sir Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar to provide India a platform of research institutes to move forward in the field of Science & Technology. Tata Industries Ltd, Indian Steel and Wire Products and Sir Ratan Tata Trust also provided their helping hand in the establishment. The foundation stone was laid in 1946 by C.Rajagopalachari, the first Governor General of India.
The objective of the NML is to provide a state of the art infrastructure for a team of well experienced engineers and scientists. It also works to improve the standard and quality of the industrial and scientific growth.
The laboratory continuously strives to enhance its resources, along with acquiring and generating Intellectual Property Assets. It also optimizes the Research & Development Business in order to fulfill the requirement of the customer maintaining substantial growth.
